Before joining The Law Collaborative, Ty enjoyed working for more than a decade in the entertainment industry. Ty worked as a talent agent in Beverly Hills for five years at one of America's most recognized entertainment companies. When Ty was offered a position with a management and production company in Hollywood, he left the agency and went on to continue developing his skills for working closely with exceptional talent.
Ty helped find, develop, and book talent for six years with that company. While there Ty also developed and helped produce television and film projects, music acts and records, and even a headlining act on the Las Vegas Strip. As both an agent and a manager, Ty supervised and worked closely with attorneys negotiating talent contracts, option agreements, production deals, and music licensing.
Over time Ty realized that, as hard as he worked on behalf of his clients, in the end everything ended up with the lawyers. If he really wanted to continue helping people using the skills he had developed, he had to become an attorney. With this realization, Ty enrolled in the California State Bar Law Office Study Program and began "reading the law" at TLC while working as a paralegal.
After passing the First Year Law Student's Exam, Ty continued his studies, passed the California Bar Exam, and was sworn in as a licensed attorney. Ty is thankful that California is one of the seven states that still provide an avenue to study and become an attorney on the traditional path followed by Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln.
Ty’s focus on Consensual Dispute Resolution, his background in entertainment, and his non-traditional schooling provide great advantages to his clients. Law schools focus on adversarial, Win-Lose approaches which are antithetical to Consensual Dispute Resolution. By omitting the usual adversarial indoctrination from his schooling, Ty hopes to forge new solutions for conflict resolution and expand the application of Consensual Dispute Resolution to other areas of law.
Ty is a frequent contributor to the Los Angeles Daily Journal and a popular and dynamic speaker on legal issues. As continuing education, Ty most recently completed Advanced Mediation Training with Kenneth Cloke, J.D., Ph. D. at the Center for Dispute Resolution.
In addition to practicing Entertainment Law, Ty handles divorce, child custody, alimony, and other family law matters. Ty also practices in all areas of estate planning including asset protection, wills and trusts, charitable planning, Gun Trusts, and healthcare planning documents. entertainment attorney
